Nissan’s announcement that it will build its new-generation all-electric vehicle in Sunderland, alongside a new electric battery gigafactory from Envision AESC, is a major vote of confidence in the UK and our highly skilled workers in the North East.
This marks a huge step forward in our ambition to put the UK at the front of the global electric vehicle race, with a £1 billion investment that will create 6,000 jobs - further proof that the UK remains one of the most competitive locations in the world for automotive manufacturing.
Commitments like this shows how the Conservatives are delivering on our commitment for a green industrial revolution that will level up and create jobs in our industrial heartlands – building back better and greener across the country.
