Nissan invests in Britain and Sunderland

Today Nissan and Envision AESC have announced that they will build a new ‘gigafactory’ and electric car model in Sunderland, delivering a huge boost to our automotive industry and helping to level up jobs and opportunity in the North East.

  • Nissan’s announcement that it will build its new-generation all-electric vehicle in Sunderland, alongside a new electric battery gigafactory from Envision AESC, is a major vote of confidence in the UK and our highly skilled workers in the North East.

  • This marks a huge step forward in our ambition to put the UK at the front of the global electric vehicle race, with a £1 billion investment that will create 6,000 jobs - further proof that the UK remains one of the most competitive locations in the world for automotive manufacturing.

  • Commitments like this shows how the Conservatives are delivering on our commitment for a green industrial revolution that will level up and create jobs in our industrial heartlands – building back better and greener across the country.
