The German Chancellor's visit

Today the Prime Minister has been meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel for her final visit to the United Kingdom before she leaves office, and set out plans to deepen the UK-Germany relationship.

  • The UK and Germany have a steadfast friendship and a shared outlook on many issues. Our scientists, innovators and industrialists work together every day to make the world a better place.

  • That is why the Prime Minister will set out new joint ventures with Chancellor Merkel to deepen the UK-Germany relationship, organising annual joint meetings of the UK and German cabinets, establishing a new UK-German cultural dialogue and creating a new academic medal to support leading British and German women scientists.

  • Over the 16 years of Chancellor Merkel’s tenure the UK-Germany relationship has been re-energised and re-invigorated, and these new measures will strengthen our collaboration with Germany on global challenges as we build back better together.
