The next generation of satellite communications
The government has announced plans to invest £160 million to fund the next generation of satellite communications, bridging the digital divide and levelling-up our country while growing the economy.
- Connectivity is a key part of our plan to grow the economy as we work toward our target to deliver nationwide gigabit broadband by 2030.
- That is why we are exploring grant funding of up to £100 million to propel our long-term ambitions in the space sector, as well as an additional £60 million from the European Space Agency’s UK-backed Advanced Research in Telecommunications Systems programme, boosting connectivity as we grow the economy.
- This planned next step in UK connectivity will help bridge the digital divide for families and as well as giving businesses the tools they need to grow.
