David Cameron writes on his conference speech today
Today in my conference speech I set out our Party’s driving mission in Government: to build a land of opportunity in our country today.
For three and a half years we’ve been clearing up Labour’s mess. But we didn’t just come in to clear up the mess – we came in to build something better.
A land of opportunity means more decent jobs for hardworking people, more money in their pocket, more chances for their children to get a decent education, wherever they’re from. It means more hope for those stuck on welfare for years too.
On all these things we’re making progress:
- 1.4 million new jobs in the private sector
- More people in work than ever before
- Benefits capped
- More children studying proper science subjects and foreign languages
- The deficit cut by a third
- Net immigration down by a third
We’re getting there. But my message to the country is this: let us finish the job we’ve started. We’re fighting to build a better country now and every day until the next election.
Yours,
