New investment in the north of England.


Conservatives want the great northern cities to work with us over the coming months and together we will make a reality of the plan we’ve set out for the Northern Powerhouse - an ambitious plan to make the cities and towns in the northern belt radically better connected from east to west - to create the equivalent of travelling around a single global city.

Conserative ministers in the coalition government are ready to commit new money, new infrastructure, new transport and new science. And real new civic power too. This comes on top of action already taken to build a new north-south railway, HS2, and give our great northern cities like Leeds, Liverpool, Sheffield and Hull more tools to grow through City Deals.

Yesterday the Chancellor set out the Pathway to this Northern Powerhouse, so as to deliver a real improvement in the long term economic performance of the north of England. This will be a centrepiece of the Autumn Statement - and part of our long term plan to build a healthier economy and a brighter future for the whole country, meaning more security and greater peace of mind for hardworking taxpayers.

Very nice of the coalition government ministers to personally contribute to build this. At the moment there are around 120 of them, so lets say they contribute a million each, thats £120 million which would build quite a bit of rail line, but not all of it, not by a long shot, and for a 0.8333% share, seems like a big risk they are taking to me, how long do they think it will take to get a return on their money?

Unless of course what you actually meant to say was "coalition ministers will spend taxpayers money on this" which of course would be unacceptable, why?, well I for one of those tax payers quite simply DO NOT RECALL BEING ASKED ABOUT IT, now to spend the taxpayer money in this case would be ok, so long as its agreed.

I have a lot of sympathy for the Harrogate agenda, but it's not the way the country is run today. I hope to live to see a Britain much closer to a Harrogate form of government, but we are where we are.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
