Quote of the day 7th January 2015

"... in any bureaucratic organization there will be two kinds of people: those who work to further the actual goals of the organization, and those who work for the organization itself. Examples in education would be teachers who work and sacrifice to teach children, vs. union representatives who work to protect any teacher including the most incompetent. The Iron Law states that in all cases, the second type of person will always gain control of the organization, and will always write the rules under which the organization functions."

(Jerry Pournelle's "Iron Law of Bureaucracy.)

now is sort of that time in westminster.
you wont hear anything now about much, only party politics and point scoring.
the politicians work for the party and to be fair, thats all they want to do. its all "we wills" but then none of it matters much. Very little in fact. in the case of Labours "we will" its a case of "i'd rather you didn't" and in the case of the consevative "we wills" there are mostly "i'd rather you didn'ts" and some "well why didn't you's"

I hope there will be some constructive discussion during the election about what people actually want to do - we will have to see.

Forrest for the trees, Chris, forrest for the trees.

Let me adjust your comment so that I can fully agree with it.

I would like to see there to be some constructive discussion during the election campaign and beyond, about the best ways to implement a system which asks the people what the people actually want to do.

Look at it like this....

1. I am told what i will do over every 5 year term, never asked. Who is the master here?

2. there is no democracy within this system as such, sure I am offered either this package (which i don't want) or that package (which i don't want even more)

3. When there is a need for a new piece of legislation then I will ask for it, even if i dont others will and we can all vote on it. if I am out voted, well i can live with that. Lets not be forced to obide by something because some one thinks its a good idea.

4. if i have a grievence then let me raise it, lets not prat about with descussions in paliament, if a pertition reaches 1,000,000 sigs then lets have a referendum.

you see, you cant bribe me with my own money, and you can cant win my vote with promises of referendums.

Sure, the conservatives are offering and Article 48 of TEU fudge to ammend part 3 of TFEU, so migrants have sticter rules on benefits, but that is not a treaty change or a full blown one.

right now I see no reason to vote for a conservative government over any other or not at all. Lets face it, none are looking to change this to a democracy. Sure a tory government will prevent a labour tax and spend one, but thats all.

back to the referendum, why? why replace dictatorship from brussels with dictatorhip from London?

there is another way
