"We want a country where the government works for everyone" - isn't that an acknowledgement that this government doesn't work for everyone.

how can it work for everyone? Now what may work for you, may not work for me, and that I accept. But no central state can ever work for everyone. Its that simple, we are what we are, and we do what we do, and the free market would allow us to do that, but we dont have it, and that is the problem.

It is a statement of aspiration - that we are trying to get as close as possible to a position where the government works for everyone.

It is an ideal which cannot be reached, partly for some of the reasons Jim mentions. I certainly would not regard it as an admission that the government is not trying to work for everyone.
