The future of AI continued - the new AI Safety institute

Yesterday the British government launched launched a new AI Safety Institute to help spur international collaboration on AI’s safe development, as we take the long-term decisions for a brighter future.

  • AI brings limitless opportunity to grow the global economy, deliver better public services and tackle some of the world’s biggest challenges, but there are also long-term risks and challenges that we must understand and address to keep us safe.
  • That is why the UK has established a new AI Safety Institute which will act as a global hub on AI safety, leading on vital research into the capabilities and risks of this fast-moving technology and helping policymakers across the globe in gripping the risks posed by the most advanced AI capabilities, so that we can maximise the enormous benefits.
  • We are leading the way to make sure that everyone can benefit from the huge opportunities that AI brings while working with international partners to understand and mitigate the risks, taking the long-term decisions to do what is right and necessary to keep us safe.
