Cameron in Keswick

David Cameron came to the new Copeland constituency today as part of a tour of Cumbria. During a visit to Keswick DC spoke to a number of the people involved in running Pubwatch, a scheme to ensure that licenes premises can support one another, particuarly by ensuring that someone who gets barred from one pub for getting drunk and behaving unacceptably is banned from all pubs in the area. He then went to Keswick police station and heard more about the scheme from a police perspective and about the other policing issues in the area.

Pubwatch is a great Cumbrian success story which has delivered a huge reduction in alcolhol related crime, and indeed in total violent crime in the area.

It was a shame we didn't have prior notice of David's visit.

The conservative party will be assured of my vote on Thursday and in the general election.

However, I want to see a commitment from the conservatives of reducing taxation and a total review of the spending priorities of government.

I'm the managing director of a SME and we have to watch and justify every penny we spend. This should be the priority of the next conservative government.

Thanks for that, Ian. I note your point about notice. You are absolutely right that spending priorities must be reviewed, that every penny spent by government must be closely scrutinised.

The debt mountain building up is terrifying and government spending msut be got under control.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer.
