Concessionary Fares - time running out

A final reminder from tonight's Bransty and Harbour Neighbourhood forum which is also relevant to senior citizens in other parts of the Copeland BC area.

Concessionary Travel permits etc for 2009/2010 expire at the end of March. Copeland BC have sent application forms for those who want to take advantage of the scheme for 2010/2011 to existing customers and they are available from the council offices. If you want to have concessionary travel available from 1st April, please try to get your application in by 19th February (e.g. this Friday.)

There has neve been any such thing as a pure market economy at one extreme or a pure command economny at the other.

If the government or the council decides to provide some support for travel for vulnerable members of society I don't think that takes us quite into Gosplan territory.

And whether than policy is right or not, if it is in place it's only fair to try to publicise it. Because if you don't make the effort to let people know what is going on, you can bet your bottom dollar that the ones who don't hear and don't claim will be the people who have always paid their whack and never had their fare share of the things they're entitled to claim back.

this rampant discrimination you're supporting

Since everyone who lives a full lifespan becomes a pensioner eventually, and a lot of pensioners have relatively low incomes and do not drive, I do not think that the principle of providing some assistance to for travel for older citizens is unfair or unreasonable.

It does of course have to be put within the context of the country's financial situation and all the other public services we need.

I agree the principle of providing some assistance to for travel for older citizens is fair and reasonable, but this is not what is happening. They are receiving FREE transport, and many of them are abusing it.
