Quote of the day 22nd November 2014

“In left-wing circles it is always felt that there is something slightly disgraceful in being an Englishman and that it is a duty to snigger at every English institution, from horse racing to suet puddings. It is a strange fact, but it is unquestionably true that almost any English intellectual would feel more ashamed of standing to attention during ‘God save the King’ than of stealing from a poor box.”

(George Orwell)

As Guido Fawkes pointed out, one of the reasons the tweet from Emily Thornberry of a house with three St George's Cross flags and a white van caused such a fuss was probably because people assumed it was an expression of the sort of "progressive" metropolitan disdain for both patriotism and actual working people that Orwell was talking about.

Mr Eugenides via twitter: "Stupid woman tweets photo of white van and flags, resigns. Stupid man calls for compulsory repatriation of legal EU residents, is elected".

now looking forward to Owen Pattersons speech to yhe bruges group on monday.

There is a gaping open goal there for the taking from the conservative party, and has been for a while. There is currently no party with a credible EU exit plan, UKIP cant come up with one, they can only preach the negatives about being in, they have had over 20 years to come up with a credible way to leave and failed. Its a gap Lab or Lib dem will never fill. so its there for the taking for the conservatives, to beat ukips "how bad it is in" then the only way is to hit that open goal with "this is how good it would be OUT and this is how to do it"

I think that is the line Patterson will push further on Monday (i think he has read Flexit)

Rather amusingly he will be speaking a little after Mark "oops" Reckless
