This year's best April Fool gags

As it is now well past 12 noon, and therefore traditionally no longer acceptable to try to trick people with "April Fool" gags, here is a quick roundup of some of this year's.

And yes, my post here in the early hours that the House of Commons had just held an emergency midnight session with Speaker Bercow locked in the basement and passed MV4 was an April Fool. I don't think anyone was taken in though I did have some "if only" responses.

The British Transport Police posted that a new £2,000 fine was being introduced for eating smelly food on the train.

One person on Twitter posted that Theresa May is stepping down immediately as PM, and had made an appointment to see the Queen this morning.

An the UK Defence journal posted several stories, most of which fooled a few people into posting outraged responses, and some of which can be found, here, here, here, here and here.

All of them had disclaimers along the lines of this one at the end:

Quite.

I thought it was cancelled this year, as they are making such an hillarious cock up of brexit in the real world, then a prank would most likely seem sane by comparison.

It has been noted by more than one person that telling the best April Fool gags from the genuine news has been unusually difficult this year.
