Labour's garden tax

Yesterday, Labour unveiled plans for a tax raid on their homes which will hit millions of hardworking homeowners and pensioners – showing Labour will stop at nothing to hammer hard working families.

Key facts: 
  • In a report sneaked out today, Labour have announced a new ‘progressive property tax’ on every home. 
  • These proposals are extraordinary and deeply damaging in equal measure. 
  • Labour will stop at nothing to hammer families with more tax and make home ownership a pipedream for future generations. 
  • Plans to seize land into public ownership also show Labour’s true colours of more and more state control. 
  • This tax bombshell for families would mean family homes with gardens paying far more and higher taxes on pensioners by abolishing the single person discount. 

Why this matters:

The Conservatives are investing £44 billion to boost housebuilding and cutting stamp duty to get more people onto the housing ladder, while keeping council tax bills under control.

But if you aspire to own your own house and garden, be warned that Labour will see you as part of "the few" that they want to tax for every penny they can get out of you.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
