Protecting Renters and Rough Sleepers

Last week, the Housing Secretary announced extra support to help protect renters as well as those rough sleeping from the effects of Covid-19.

  • The winter months are especially difficult for those sleeping rough, and with this new variant of the virus spreading more rapidly across the country, we must do all we can to protect those sleeping rough at this dangerous moment in our fight against coronavirus.

  • Backed by an additional £10 million in funding, all councils in England will be redoubling their efforts to help accommodate those currently sleeping rough wherever possible, and ensure they are registered with a GP. The government has also extended the ban on bailiff evictions for all but the most egregious cases for at least 6 weeks.

  • These measures will help save lives by protecting those who are sleeping rough and ensuring that renters aren’t evicted while we all continue to play our part by staying at home, to protect the NHS and save lives.
