Decarbonising Britain's roads

Today the government announced £30 million in future roads funding to decarbonise our roads, using new technology to cut carbon emissions, improve regional connectivity, and create well paid jobs for the future.

  • The UK is a world leader in technology and innovation and we must use that strength to drive decarbonisation and the next generation of high tech jobs that go alongside it.
  • That is why the government is investing £30 million into seven new regional projects across the UK, from Lancashire to Devon, through the Live Labs 2: Decarbonising Local Roads competition, supporting green infrastructure projects tackling the long-term decarbonisation of highways, including streetlights.
  • Through innovation and investment Conservatives are creating good, well paid jobs for the future across the UK – as we accelerate the road to net zero.
