Armistice Day
This weekend the Prime Minister asked the Home Secretary to support the Metropolitan Police in doing everything necessary to protect the sanctity of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday and the values we stand for.
- To plan protests on Armistice Day is provocative and disrespectful – there is a clear and present risk that the Cenotaph and other war memorials could be desecrated. The right to remember, in peace and dignity, must be protected.
- That is why the Prime Minister has asked the Home Secretary to support the Metropolitan Police in doing everything necessary to protect the sanctity of Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday. The police have our full support in making robust use of their powers to protect remembrance activity.
- Anything that would disrupt Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday would be an affront to the British public and the values we stand for.
