Conservatives on Colchester council win all-party support against deferring elections

Well done to the councillors of all parties on Colchester City council who passed a Conservative motion rejecting the proposal to defer elections due in 2026 in Essex.

I hope all the councils the government have offered the chance to defer elections take the same stand.

Here is a letter to the government from the council and signed by the leader of Colchester City Council and the leaders of the Conservative, Labour, Lib/Dem and Green groups, opposing deferring elections.

I hope all councillors who are consulted on similar proposals have the courage to take the same stand.
