He writes on Conservative Home about his visit. Here is an extract. I’ve been in Cumbria today to see the areas affected by the floods. I arrived early in Keswick where I met officials from the Environment Agency. Although the river levels had fallen considerably and homes were no longer flooded, the damage to homes had been done. And the water which had got into houses wasn’t just from the river – it was foul water which had risen from the drains. I talked to fire crews who were pumping flood water back into the river, and discovered that they were from Tyne & Wear and Lancashire. The criteria seems to be you have to apply. No matter what you put in you can't fail.
If you rent your home it's just a case of asking the landlord to apply, it's still free.
If you rent a council home odds are its already been done. I remember copeland putting jackets on the council houses at Mirehouse over a decade ago.
So I can't see what the protest is about. Want insulation? Apply and you can have it.
These people have managed to make what should be a popular cause unpopular, blocking roads, putting their own and other people's lives at risk, and in the case above even obstructing the very measure their stated aim is to promote, so as to try to get the government to do something which it is already doing.
