Social tariffs for Broadband customers
Earlier this week the UK government hosted a summit of broadband providers to boost awareness of social tariffs for customers, helping keep bills low for those who need the most support with the cost of living.
- Helping families manage the cost of living is a priority and currently only 31 per cent of eligible groups are aware that social tariffs are available, despite them being available in 99 per cent of the UK.
- That is why the government has urged companies to raise awareness of affordable deals for people on Universal Credit, which could save them up to £180 per year compared to average tariffs. Our new service can verify – with customers’ permission – whether they are in receipt of a relevant benefit and eligible for a social tariff.
- Everyone should have access to affordable mobile and broadband services and we encourage anyone who thinks they are entitled to further support to check their eligibility.
- In the interests of full disclosure, I should again make clear that although I am posting this as a Conservative activist, I am also an Openreach employee. All the information in this post comes from government or Conservative sources and does not necessarily reflect the views of BT or Openreach.
