The evacuation from Sudan

British forces have successfully evacuated 2,197 people from Sudan, adding further flights from Port Sudan to those which had taken place from an airfield near the capital Khartoum in the longest and largest airlift by any Western nation during the crisis.

  • The situation in Sudan is extremely grave and the safety and security of British nationals continues to be a priority for the UK government.
  • The UK has been working hard in very difficult circumstances to evacuate British nationals from Sudan and have evacuated 2,197 people in the operation. In addition to British nationals, Britain also helped evacuate 1,087 people from our partner-nations, including the US, Ireland, Netherlands, Canada, Germany and Australia.
  • The UK government will continue to work with our allies and partners to end the bloodshed in Sudan and support the transition to a democratic government, which is the best thing we can do to ensure the safety of British nationals there.
