Harbour Ward by election

Indications are that the Harbour ward by-election for Copeland Borough Council this coming Thursday (20th September) may be extremely close and every vote could count.

This is normally a fairly safe Labour ward, but our canvass returns suggest that there may only a few votes between the Conservative and Labour candidates. The BNP appear to be well behind in third place. However, these findings have to be taken with considerable caution.

If you are a Harbour ward elector, your vote could make all the difference.

Polls are open from 7 am to 10pm on Thursday, at the normal polling stations: St Gregory's & St Patrick's School, St Begh's school, St James's parish hall, and Whitehaven Masonic Hall.

As you well know, Bill, because your people have seen us out canvassing just as we have seen them, I have spent a great many hours in Harbour ward over the last few weeks getting out and talking to people.

In another 48 hours we will all know what decision the voters of Harbour have made. Many of those voters, including myself, have already voted by post.

In the meantime one of the few things which all the parties can agree on is that the vote of every remaining resident could make the difference.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer.
