Heard on the doorstep

In Keswick this afternoon a couple gave one of my campaign team the following reason why they will not be voting Labour:

"When Blair got in he said his priorites were 'Education, Education, Education.'

What he delivered was Regulation, Regulation, Regulation."

I was most amused by that one. The gentleman understood what lies at the heart of Labour - a need to control, to take away the freedom of choice from individuals who know better than the Government how to lead their lives and how to spend their money.

Many people on the doorstep are sick and tired of a Government that tries to control and micromanage, which is bad enough, but the Labour party is so incompetent, riddled with factional fighting and weak, Gordon Brown can't even control his own ministers properly.

Remember, folks, only by voting for the Conservatives can we get rid of this shambles calling itself a Government.

That some of the regulation, control-freakery and targets will be the first thing to go as we try to save money - starting with ID cards.

There's not much point having regulations or laws if politicians will only enforce what suits them.
