Parking in Whitehaven

Local businesses in Whitehaven have been expressing concern that if parking in the town is made too difficult or expensive it may do great harm to the local economy: today I saw an example of another problem.

This afternoon outside the telephone exchange there was a parked car. It was parked illegally though if every car which was parked against the rules in Catherine Street got a ticket there would be an awful lot issued. When there was a court building in Catherine Street, there would often be a prison van parked illegally outside the Telephone exchange while the court was sitting.

Anyway, this afternoon the car parked in pretty much the same place that there used to be an illegally parked prison tranport had two things on the windscreen.

On the inside there was a clearly visible printed sign saying "Midwife on call."

On the outside there was a parking ticket.

Oops.

Unless they have evidence that signs purporting to identify the vehicles of medical personnel are being abused, perhaps Copeland BC should have a little word with the contractors who issue parking enforcement notices for them.

Was the car a 3 wheel van with "New York, Paris, london, Peckham" written on the back - :)

though I must say I find Whitehaven particularly irksome when it comes to parking. I only tend to go to Catherine street when i am visiting the doctors though so it may well have been the midwife at Catherine street surgury (not much else to visit on Catherine street really. When I go there I tend to use morrisons car park, though to be fair once i am done at the doctors i use morrisions pharmacy for any prescriptions.

One that did really annoy me was when I noticed that the Beacon (a facility that people, mainly tourists, pay to use) also has a pay and display car park, that would really put me off visiting it to be honest.

Though I must confess being critical of Whitehavens access roads and car parking and mentioning how most businesses have long since left the town is one of my favorite council bashing pass times.

It was a normal small car which looked like it might well have been exactly what the sign said it was.

Take your point about the Beacon car park.
