Brexit deal finally approved 660 votes to five.
MEPS voted last night on whether to approve the EU-UK trade agreement which was reached on Christmas Eve last year and has been in effect on a temporary basis since the beginning of the year.
The vote was announced shortly after 8am this morning, and the deal was overwhelmingly passed with 660 MEPs voting for, five against and 332 abstentions.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has welcomed the news, which brings over four years of acrimonious negotiations between the two sides to a formal end.
At least in terms of the legal negotiations involved in Brexit, and with the exception of the Northern Ireland Protocol which still presents issues, we can finally say. to quote a football expression,
"They think it's all over - it is now!"
