Rapid testing to replace self-isolation

It has been announced that daily rapid testing for the fully vaccinated will replace the requirement for Omicron contacts to isolate for ten days, taking proportionate and practical steps to limit the impact of COVID-19 on people’s lives.

  • The Omicron variant is quickly gaining ground in the UK and is expected to become the dominant strain by mid-December.
  • That is why from Tuesday 14th December, people who are fully vaccinated and identified as a contact of someone with COVID-19 should take an NHS rapid lateral flow test every day for seven days, replacing the requirement for Omicron contacts to isolate for ten days.
  • This is a proportionate and practical steps will limit the impact of the virus on people’s day to day lives while helping to reduce the spread of Omicron and giving people more time to get their booster jabs.
