Giving more people access to Gigabit broadband

Today the government announced millions of homeowners and tenants will benefit from gigabit broadband connection – the fastest internet speeds on the market, making people’s lives easier and more productive.

  • Nothing should stop people from seizing the benefits of better broadband – whether it is an unresponsive landlord or a property developer’s failure to act.
  • That is why the government will ensure new homes in England are fitted with infrastructure capable of delivering gigabit broadband, avoiding the need for costly installation work after the home is built. We will also make sure telecoms firms can get faster broadband to over nine million people currently living in flats across our United Kingdom.
  • Boosting access to faster broadband will enable residents to arrange the best possible internet service at the point they move in and support more internet-connected smart appliances in the home to make our lives easier and more productive.
