Energy price cap is lower from today

The new Price Cap comes into effect today.

It's a cap on energy unit price, not a cap on total bills. But based on the typical use of an average household on their supplier’s standard default tariff, it means that the effect will be equivalent to setting the limit for a typical household at £2,074.

Energy bills are now two thirds lower than they were at their peak, and today's fall in price cap means the typical bill will fall by £426.

And as the Chancellor announced at the Budget, from today the government has scrapped prepayment meter charges, ending the unfair penalty that has existed for millions.
