Seeking to prevent escalation

Yesterday, the Prime Minister spoke to the Amir of Qatar and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia about the situation in Israel and Gaza to discuss areas of cooperation to avoid further destabilisation and reiterating our support for Israel’s right to defend itself.

  • Hamas’s brutal terrorist attack on Israel last week shocked the world – whilst supporting Israel’s right to defend itself we are working with international partners to alleviate humanitarian suffering and secure the release of hostages.
  • That is why the Prime Minister spoke to the Amir of Qatar and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia yesterday. The leaders discussed areas of cooperation to avoid further destabilisation across the Middle East and alleviate the humanitarian suffering. The Prime Minister also urged Qatar’s leaders to help secure the release of British hostages.
  • The Prime Minister reiterated his complete condemnation of Hamas’ terrorist attack and set out the UK’s efforts to support Israel and protect civilians and British nationals caught up in the violence.
