Action on Northern rail services

Today also sees the Government’s operator take over the running of rail services across the Northern network - signalling a new start for the railways in the North and ensuring no part of the UK is left behind.

  • For too long, millions of rail passengers in the north of England did not have the rail service they need or deserve – facing cancellations, delays and overcrowded trains.

  • The government has announced a new panel of local experts who will work to ensure that the Northern rail network provides the service that people deserve. The panel will build on work which is already underway to extend platforms at 30 stations across the network to allow more capacity and increase punctuality.

  • The Government’s review into our railways will soon bring forward reform to improve coordination, increase reliability and simplify fares.
