Investing in British science

Yesterday the government announced a multi-million-pound investment in the future of UK science – championing the UK’s status as a science superpower and supporting our next generation of world-leading scientists.

  • Making sure that the next generation has the scientific skills to meet the world’s needs – from developing green technologies to curing illnesses – couldn’t be more important.

  • That’s why we are announcing £179 million funding to support up to 11,000 students through 41 Doctoral Training Partnerships in physical sciences, maths and engineering, as well as £8.9 million to encourage more young people, particularly girls, to study STEM subjects at school.

  • This funding will support talented people across the country to study these vital subjects and develop technologies for the future – levelling up opportunity for our scientists and unleashing the UK’s scientific potential.
