Latest Coronavirus update

The Conservative research department sent out a note today about the statement made by Prime Minister which set out the Government’s battle plan to tackle coronavirus, as we prepare for all eventualities and work to keep the British public safe.

It includes the following:
  • "It is highly likely coronavirus will spread more widely in the coming days and weeks, which is why we are making every possible preparation.
  • "The new action plan, agreed after the Prime Minister chaired COBR yesterday and by all four parts of the UK, sets out how ministers will take every reasonable step to confront the virus. Every Government department will have a designated minister who will oversee their department’s role to the virus and a war room will be set up in the Cabinet Office to bring together communications experts and scientists to roll out a public information campaign.
  • "A new Bill will also be published in Parliament in the coming weeks to ensure the Government has all the necessary powers to prepare for and tackle the outbreak.
  • "We are well prepared for the virus with world leading scientists – but every single person has a role to play, helping to manage the spread of the virus, by washing their hands for 20 seconds and catching their coughs and sneezes."
