Latest national vaccination numbers
NEARLY 21.9 MILLION DOSES GIVEN TO OVER 20.9 MILLION PEOPLE
The United Kingdom vaccination programme has so far been an extraordinary success – with over 20.9 million people across the UK now having received at least the first dose, and the number who have received both first and second doses closing on a million people. This is helping to cut infection rates and reduce the spread of the virus.
Britain has administered almost 21.9 million vaccines across the UK. We are averaging almost 2.5 million doses a week, and almost 40 per cent of adults across the country have now received their first dose.
Only two countries, the United States and China, have vaccinated more people than the UK. We are also third in the world for vaccinations per capita behind only Israel and the UEA.
We are now accelerating our vaccine rollout targets. Having met the target of offering a vaccine to everyone in the top four priority groups by 15 February, the new target is to offer a vaccine to all adults by the end of July.
The latest data is clear – vaccines save lives. Both the Oxford and Pfizer vaccines reduce the likelihood of serious illness by 60 per cent after the first dose, and reduce the likelihood of hospitalisation by 80 per cent after one dose.
