·
The Conservative Party is
proud of our country’s position as a world leader in medical research. We provide nearly £1
billion a year to health research projects and are making it easier for
patients to get new medicines earlier. Supporting medical research in this
way helps develop new treatments, gives patients and their families hope and
saves lives.
· Parkinson’s UK carries out important work and the
support they offer to people and their families is invaluable.
· The government has made dementia and other associated
neurological conditions like Parkinson’s Disease, a top priority. As part of the Prime Minister’s personal Dementia
Challenge, which also covers Parkinson’s disease, the government is committed
to enhancing the services that are offered by the NHS and in the community to
people who suffer from neurological diseases.
· Specifically for people who suffer from Parkinson’s, a
grant of £600,000 has recently has been given to the Behavioural and Clinical
Neuroscience Institute Centre in Cambridge
to develop a new device for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease alongside new
drugs to combat Alzheimer’s disease.
