Britain's re-elected Prime Minister David Cameron writes




"Firstly, thank you so much for your support - not just during the election campaign, but over the past five years.
 
Together we have laid the foundations for a better future - and now, with a Conservative majority government, we must build on them.
 
We are on the brink of something special in our country.
 
We can make Britain a place where a good life is in reach for everyone who is willing to work and do the right thing. Our manifesto is a manifesto for working people. 3 million apprenticeships. More help with childcare. Cutting taxes for 30 million people. Building more homes. Creating millions more jobs. And an in-out referendum on our future in Europe.

And as we conduct this vital work, we must ensure that we bring our country together. So we will govern as a party of one nation. One United Kingdom.

That means ensuring the recovery reaches all parts of our country; giving everyone a chance in life, no matter where they're from; and of course it means bringing together the different nations of our United Kingdom.

Five years ago, our country was in the grip of an economic crisis. Five years on, Britain is so much stronger.

But the real opportunities lie ahead. And I'm convinced that we can take these islands, with our proud history, and build an even prouder future.

So am I. Now the party is over (thats the election celebration one by the way) so lets get down to business. There is a referendum in 2017 following your "renegotiation" and as you have yourself Dave, you will campaign for out if you don't get the concessions you want, please tell me what are the concessions you want? so we can see if its a success or not. go for a change to the VAT directive or something important.

A top tip would be not to limit your Re negotiation aims to things that happen to sit in Part 3 of TFEU, like freedom of movement does. If you do that then people will spot a mile off you are trying to pull a Wilson, by going for a fudge using this article and presenting it as a huge success.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
