Alcohol duty frozen

More than 38,000 pubs are set to benefit from our six-month freeze to alcohol duty from today, as the Conservative government implements our plan to back our homegrown sector, protect jobs across the UK and ensure people can continue to enjoy cheaper pints in our pubs.

  • Our freeze on alcohol duty will impact around 38,175 pubs across the country as part of the multi-billion support package announced in the Autumn Statement which also included £4.3 billion business rates relief. British pubs are a significant part of the fabric of communities across the UK and a further freeze on alcohol duty will help to support the sector while we continue to bring down inflation while driving growth and investment.
  • Whilst the Conservatives are sticking to the plan to back our pubs and grow our economy for a brighter future, with Labour we would go back to square one as they cannot say how they would back businesses like pubs because they don't have a plan.

Update 11.38am 2nd February - Sir Flip-flop strikes again

I have removed a reference to Labour's only offer to businesses like pubs being tax rises to pay for their £28 billion spending plan, as the the Labour party have apparently dropped that plan. The point about Labour not having a plan stays in as it is even more appropriate.
