Two messages to Conservative supporters from the party:

A double message today, first from the Conservative party's director of campaigning, Darren Mott, and from the party chairman Patrick McLoughlin MP.

From Darren Mott:

"On Wednesday at 5pm I’m meeting the Party Chairman to set our campaigning priorities for the rest of 2016 and into next year’s elections.

We have some tough decisions to make. By donating before 5pm, we can reach more people across Britain with our plan to build a country that works for everyone: but we need you.

Conservatives
Official figures show that in the last quarter the Labour Party raised more money to fund their campaigns than the Conservative Party. The unions helped deliver this by giving over £3 million.
 
That means the Labour Party can send more letters, distribute more leaflets and talk to more people online about their plans to:
  • Raise taxes on you and other working people
  • Add billions to the deficit with unfunded spending promises
  • Make it easier for their union paymasters to strike and disrupt people's lives

translation:

"Please send us some more of your hard earned money, so we can dictate to the plebs how much more they WILL send the government, without ever thinking to ask them."

never once I notice is this considered.

Not entirely fair, Jim - it's an appeal for voluntary contributions of money to the campaign by the party that, if re-elected, wants to do LESS dictating that ordinary taxpayers will be forced to cough up money to the government in the form of higher taxes.

Totally accept the point that parties often fail to pay enough attention to the fact that there is no such thing as public money, it has all been extorted from taxpayers.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
