Home Secretary Sajid Javid on plans to crack down on child abuse
The Home Secretary has outlined his personal mission to tackle child abuse in all its forms as new figures reveal the scale of online child sexual abuse.
This Conservative Government has done a great deal to tackle child sexual exploitation. But we want to go much, much, further, ensuring no stone is left unturned and giving law enforcement the tools they need to tackle these sick offenders.
- · Figures released publicly for the first time show that the threat from sexual predators online has evolved at a staggering pace with a 700 per cent increase in child abuse images being referred to the National Crime Agency in the last five years.
- · The Home Secretary has committed to prioritising urgent work to crack down on online child sexual abuse. This will ramp up the Governments past efforts to tackle the issue.
- · The Home Office have already announced investment of £600,000 in technology to help scour the web to help identify webpages with suspected abusive content, and are supporting the work of the Internet Watch Foundation, which has had significant success in reducing the amount of child sexual abuse material hosted in the UK.
