Moor Row Traffic Calming

Following on from the recent public meeting at the club in Moor Row to discuss traffic calming in the village, the County Council is about to formally consult on the first stage of measures to be taken to reduce speeding through the village, which we hope to have in place on Scalegill road by the end of the year.

The scheme will be funded by the money which has been paid by the developer of the housing scheme now under construction at Rusper Drive. (This was required as a part of the planning permission using a legal agreement known as a "Section 106" agreement" after the relevant section of the Town and Country Planning acts.)

It will mainly consist of what are called "speed thumps" which work on the same principle as sleeping policemen or speed tables but are much less aggressive. Similar measures are in place in Distington at Barfs Road and in Moresby. The initial plan for Scalegill Road is to put the measures in place at 37mm similar to Barfs road in Distington - the option to increase the height to something greater such as was used in Moresby is there if this does not slow the traffic down to safe levels but we are hoping this will not be necessary.

Further similar measures are planned to cover the other routes into and out of the village - Section 106 money should become available for these as and when additional developments which have planning permission become active. By then we should have the Scalegill Road scheme in place and will be monitoring it to see how it works.
