Budget meeting of Cumbria County Council

The agenda has now been published for the 2019 budget meeting of Cumbria County Council which will be held a week today - Thursday 14th February - at 10am in the council chamber at County Hall in Kendal.

The meeting will be open to those members of the public who have time to get to Kendal and give up most of a working day to listen. Roll on the day when CCC moves into the first decade of the 21st century - never mind the present one - and starts live-streaming important meetings like this.

The agenda and supporting reports for the meeting can be found on the county council website here, although the most interesting document - the actual budget recommendation - is not there yet as the cabinet has been meeting this morning to agree it. That paper will follow.

We did try live streaming at South Lakeland but there is a cost to it and let’s just say that the viewer numbers didn’t cause any concern to Netflix!

Thanks for that. I would be interested to hear more about how that worked and what the experience was, Peter and may take the opportunity to talk to you about it when we both have a moment.

There are different ways of organising such a service, some of which are more expensive than others, and how much take-up you get depends on what is on the agenda and how well the service is publicised.

But in a county which takes as long to get around as Cumbria I think we need to do more to let the people who elect us see what we are doing.
