Helping women return to work

Today, the Minister for Women and Equalities is launching a fund to help isolated and marginalised women return to work, helping them to grow their skills and confidence.

Key facts

  • Nine out of ten potential returners to work are women, with around 1.8 million women currently economically inactive because they are caring for their home or family.
  • The £500,000 fund is open for charities and organisations across England and will support marginalised people – including victims of domestic and substance abuse, those with language barriers, people with mental or physical health issues, and those who experience cultural barriers – back into the workplace.
  • The government is committed to publishing a strategy in late spring setting out how we will work to economically empower all women.

Why this matters:

For too long, vulnerable women have been held back from having the freedom, support and choice to do what they want to do. These women should be given the chance to reach their full potential, which is why we are investing in them to grow their skills and their confidence, so they feel ready to return to work when they want to.
