Tackling serious crime
Today the Home Secretary announced that £130.5 million of taxpayers money will be made available to prevent serious violent crime, including murder and knife crime, and its underlying causes, so we can deliver the safe communities that everyone deserves.
- Continuing the commitment to cut crime and make our streets safer, the government will continue to give frontline police officers the powers and resources they need to tackle the perpetrators of the serious violent crimes that blight communities.
- That is why the government is providing a total package of £130.5 million to address the most egregious types of crime, which includes £30 million to support targeted action in the most affected areas in England and Wales, as well as £23 million for new early intervention work so we can steer young people away from violence.
- This funding marks another step in the Conservative government's efforts to prevent serious crime, as we recruit 20,000 more police officers over the course of this Parliament and introduce new stop and search powers, so we can build Britain back safer.
