Call to Universities for flexibility on student results

The Universities Minister has written to all Vice-Chancellors, encouraging them to show flexibility with students’ results this year, so that no young person’s life chances are damaged by coronavirus.

  • Nobody should have to put their future on hold because of coronavirus, and we must ensure that children from all background are treated fairly.

  • We have asked universities to hold places for students appealing their grades until they receive the outcome of that appeal wherever possible. We have also exempted students who successfully appeal then meet their offer from counting towards student control numbers, helping prevent students whose grades change from losing out on a place at their chosen university.

  • The regulator Ofqual has introduced a robust appeals process so every student can be treated fairly, and we are now asking universities to play their part in ensuring every young person can progress to the education they deserve.
