Government support for Business

 

New data published today reveals how businesses in every corner of the country continue to be supported by government-backed coronavirus support, helping to protect lives and livelihoods while kickstarting our economic recovery.

  • Since the start of the pandemic, this unprecedented package of support has helped firms of all sizes, in all sectors, and in every corner of our United Kingdom.
     
  • Data released today shows just how big an impact government support has had, with more than 130,000 businesses across Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland accessing government support worth £4.7 billion since March. in England, almost 900,000 businesses have benefitted from £10 billion of grants.
     
  • In total, more than 65,000 businesses in Scotland, 41,000 in Wales and 25,000 in Northern Ireland are benefitting from government support. As we bounce back from the pandemic, we will continue to prioritise jobs and skills, laying the foundations to build back better and stronger than before.

There is a similar saying by Germany's Iron Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck: Benjamin Franklin is supposed to have put the same saying in a more humorous form: "Wise men profit by the mistakes of others, while fools will not learn even from their own blunders." Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
