Fraudster alert

Yet another series of unsolicited telephone messages from fraudsters this week.

Some of the fraudsters are worryingly sophisticated so one has to be careful how one responds to any unsolicited calls.

Some are not.

If you get the recorded message I had today which starts off with the words "This call is being forwarded to you from British Telecom" you should hang up as soon as you hear the obsolete trade name "British Telecom."

That name is nearly thirty years out of date - it was phased out in favour of "BT" on 2nd April 1991.

No genuine employee of the company would use the term in a message to customers today: anyone who claims to be contacting you on behalf of "British Telecom" is a crook who is attempting to steal your money.
