Electronic Tagging
The government has announced an extension to the electronic tagging scheme, targeting an additional 2,000 burglars, robbers and thieves with compulsory electronic monitoring when they leave custody to keep our communities safe.
- Offences such as theft, robbery and burglary are some of the most intrusive and upsetting crimes almost always carrying the implication or threat of violence.
- That is why the government is expanding the electronic tagging scheme, introducing compulsory tags for burglars, robbers and thieves on leaving prison after shorter sentences of 90 days or over – monitoring the movements of an additional 2,000 criminals.
- This will empower the police and probation service to keep us safe by providing them with the technology and resources they need – cracking down on repeat offenders who are blighting our neighbourhoods.
