Protecting victims of domestic violence

This week the government announced that perpetrators who pose a risk of domestic abuse once they are released from prison will be made to wear electronic monitoring tags, better protecting victims from domestic abusers and helping them rebuild their lives.

  • Survivors of domestic abuse show great strength and bravery in coming forward, and it is right that every tool is used to protect them from further harm.
  • That is why the government is introducing tougher measures to monitor and track those who may go on to commit domestic abuse after they are released from prison. Up to 500 prison leavers will be made to wear a GPS or curfew tag as part of a pilot as we look to roll-out the policy across England and Wales next year.
  • We must continue to do everything we can to crack down on violence against women and girls, making sure they feel safe in their communities.
