Election Day minus 27 and counting

Another lovely day, more progress on the campaign trail.

Encouraging sessions of canvassing in both the Mirehouse and Highlands areas of Whitehaven. Interesting the Mirehouse section covered this morning was nearly as good as the Bransty ward section.

We also visited a Sure Start centre in Cleator Moor, where some excellent work was being done: this was one of two occasions today when I and members of my campaign team met my Labour opponent Jamie Reed. With, I would add, courtesy shown on both sides: we can differ about the best path for Britain without being enemies.

I only hope Mr Reed is as gallant a gentleman towards Mr Whiteside, as Mr Whiteside is towards him.

In other words less of the porkies with regards to Conservative policy. Yes we support the NHS and nuclear new build.

Jamie, give over on the non-doms issues, pot calling kettle etc, get what I mean - Lord Paul. This sleaze about the level of donations to political parties has to be sorted by all sides, if faith is to be retained in our political system. Do you get it? The survival of democratic politics is on the line!

There is a similar saying by Germany's Iron Chancellor, Otto von Bismarck: Benjamin Franklin is supposed to have put the same saying in a more humorous form: "Wise men profit by the mistakes of others, while fools will not learn even from their own blunders." Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
