Helping people to perform to their full potential in the workplace

The Work and Pensions Secretary unveiled new proposals today to help every person, no matter their background, progress in the workplace and outperform what society says they should be able to do.

Key facts
  • Automation is changing the nature of work, so the jobs of the future are increasingly likely to require a different set of skills.
  • There is a clear opportunity for businesses to create higher-quality, higher-paying jobs, but we know that changing career for many people, especially those with families, can be daunting.
  • The Conservative government will support people through this by training Work Coaches to help those already in work to decide when and how to switch jobs and by creating new jobcentre specialists who focus on in work progression, rather than just getting people into work.

Why this matters

As Conservatives we want every person, no matter their background, to progress in the workplace and outperform what society says they should be able to do. All parties should embrace the opportunities brought by technology to improve the lives people rather than harking for the past.
