Five years since Indyref

Five years ago Scotland voted on whether or not to remain part of the UK.

The people of Scotland voted to stay, and an opinion poll this week suggested that this is what a larger majority - 59% of Scots still want today.

What is it with people wanting second referendums all the time, just because your side lost. Its just silly.

Now a referendum 25 years after the last one may be a different matter, but not 5 and in the case of the EU one not 3.

I will mention at this point that Chris, our host, voted to remain in the EU, but since the referendum result has acted in no other way than to respect that result, he is one of the honorable few.

And you are quite right, supporting a referendum - as both the SNP did for the 2014 Scottish Independence one, and as the Lib/Dems did in voting for the 2016 Brexit one - and then not respecting the result is in my opinion entirely wrong.

Quote of the day 24th July 2020

I was moved to put the passage below forward as a quote today when I saw a horrible post on twitter from someone writing that it was "excellent" that someone who took a different view from her about Brexit had died. I won't write which way round it was so that all the Remain supporters can assume the post was from a Brexit fanatic welcoming the death of a remainer and all the Leavers can assume it was a Remainiac welcoming one less Brexiteer. There's been plenty of nasty stuff on both sides but if you catch anyone of your own viewpoint  posting something like that who might listen to you, please do call them out on it - and point out that they're giving everyone on your side of the argument a bad name.
