UK politics is becoming very strange ...

According to Craig Oliver on Twitter, Labour MP Mary Creagh said this evening that Labour would not vote for any motion to call a general election. He wrote:

"Fascinating to be in the @BBCNewsnight studio when @MaryCreaghMP ruled out @UKLabour agreeing to an election."

ITV political commentator Paul Brand tweeted a similar, though less definitive, indication from Labour MP Hillary Benn.

Members of parliament from the party which
  • has spent months calling for a General election
  • and the past week accusing the Prime Minister of shutting down democracy,
now suggesting that they will or might vote against it if the PM tries to resolve the Brexit deadlock by calling a General Election.

If these reports on twitter are accurate this is utterly extraordinary.
